This challenge could not have come at a better time! I have been trying to motivate myself to write more and engage more with my writing and social media so here it is Day 1 of my 12 Day Blogger Challenge.
Day 1 Why Do You Blog & 5 Random Facts.
I began writing when I was quite young. I loved to read so writing was a very natural progression for me. I decided that when I left school I wanted to study journalism. Unfortunately a teacher at my school was quite quick to remind me that I wasn’t very good at it and I should consider something else. So I put my dream of writing on the shelf for many years. About a year ago I decided to start my own blog “Lashes, Lace & Ink”. It was inspired by the number of wonderful plus size bloggers in the UK and I decided I wanted to become the Irish equivalent. As I was setting up my blog, another blog I read Fe-line were looking for contributors. I hummed and hawed about applying for quite a while. One day in a fit of bravery I decided to throw my hat in the ring. Luckily, the lovely Jo saw potential in my ramblings and decided to take a chance on me. While “Lashes, Lace & Ink” fell to the wayside I continued to submit my monthly posts to Fe-line. The idea of starting up my own blog always lingered in my head but I decided I was not going to set up another page until I was willing to commit to it 100%. So, this summer I bit the bullet and decided to financially and otherwise invest in myself and my talent. After much trial and error, as well as trying to negotiate WordPress, Rebelle-ution was born.
The reason I tell this back story is because I think it’s very important to explain where I’m coming from when I write. I would describe my blog as a feminist, body positive, sex positive and empowering space. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but that is what I am too. I am more than just one element. There are many things that push my buttons and many things that I am passionate and excited about. I want to share all of those things with you as well as sharing a giggle and if you learn something and/ or feel empowered along the way then all the better!
It is my mission to encourage people to talk more openly about sex. I relish the idea of helping people get out of their comfort zones and explore something that is so basic and natural. I feel the same about body positivity, there are so many negative messages out there about bodies, how you “should” look, what an “ideal” body looks like and I would like to be an alternative voice that says
“Look how ever the hell you want to look & the ideal body is the one you’ve got right now- love that body it’s yours own it in whatever way you see fit!!”
So that’s me, a bouncy, perky, alternative, fat, feminist who just wants to put a little stamp on the world in her own weird way. Most importantly I would like to thank you for reading this because if it weren’t for all of you reading this then I would be rambling away to myself. I do that anyway but it is so much nicer when you can share a common space and a little positivity with people.
5 Random Facts.
1. Marshmallows give me the creeps- seriously they are gross, the smell, the texture, urrgh. I ate a bag once for charity and I do not intend to repeat the experience.
2. Some people experience the same feeling of arousal when thinking about food as when having sex. (I might be one of them.)
3. Across the world for every 2.24 male characters in movies there is 1 female.
4. Approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Unfortunately, only 5% of women naturally possess the body type often portrayed by Americans in the media.
5. The Latin word for “tattoo” is stigma.
So there you have it Day 1 of the 12 day blogger challenge. Will you be taking part??
