Happy Friday Rebelle-utionaries!!
Today is Day 5 of the 12 Day Blogging Challenge and I am going to talk to you about my most loved possessions. Be warned this will not be a deep and meaningful post about my loved ones aka family friends and pets. Mostly because I do not possess those, well the fish maybe they can’t very well up and bugger off, but the rest could. Instead it will be an insight into my creature comforts and the things that make me oh so happy!
I know this one will be a little controversial but I do love my makeup. I actually enjoy getting up in the morning and painting my face. I literally do mean painting my face too, from the basics of a lipstick or not to what colour I would like my eyebrows to be today. Is it ground breaking stuff, not at all but decorating my face does give me a little creative buzz in the morning. It’s not a “have to” situation and if there is a day it feels like an effort I generally don’t bother. However on the other days my makeup does make me very happy.
2. My Books
My longest standing relationship is with my books. One of my first investments when I got my job was to buy a book case for all of my babies. It is probrably the most random collection known to man but I love it dearly. Feminist literature, funny books, tattoo books, books of sex tips and photography books full of lovely naked people. Why, because they make me so very happy. They capture the imagination in ways that television never could. Give me spotify, a pot of tea and a good book and I am the happiest girl on the planet.
3. My Feminist Paraphernalia.
I love my feminist goodies! Not only are they excellent conversation starters and a way of literally wearing your feminist badge with pride they also have sentimental value. My “Riots not Diets” mug was hand painted by the very talented Skullmuggery. Nevermind looking for branded feminist goodies online, support local kick ass chicks to make gorgeous tea cups, mugs or tea pots. My barbie dream house would be full of feminist delph! My second set of feminist goodies came from a Caitlin Moran gig that I went to where I got to meet the brilliant lady herself. Nothing quite cements the fact that you’re a feminist quite like seeing Ms. Moran live!
4. My Body Confidence.
I count my body confidence in this list because I worked hard for it and I most certainly earned it. Like a lot of people I never really liked what I saw in the mirror. My life involved going from one dysfunctional thought process to the next and discovering new insecurities on a frequent basis. How and ever that is no longer the case. I now love, even adore my body and have more confidence than I ever dreamed possible. It’s amazing how much better you can feel about yourself, when you cast of nonsensical notions of what it means to be an attractive human and just accept that you are just that. It wasn’t easy in the slightest and I do have days when the gremlins poke me but that’s to be expected. Quite frankly a moment or two of niggling down from 20 odd years of straight hatred isn’t bad going at all.
4. Pictures from my Boudoir Girls Photo Shoot
I love, love, love these pictures so very much. Not only because they are gorgeous pictures but because Natalie from Boudoir Girls had the creative vision for how the pictures would look on my website. I walked into her studio with a suitcase of clothes and not much of an idea of what I was looking for. She is the complete creative genius behind each of the looks created and because of her styling and photography I have beautiful pictures I can use for all manner of articles. Not to mention the confidence boost that comes from having the very best photographs of yourself. I’m even in love with the naked picture. How many people can say that? Some day I’ll be a bad ass little old lady and that picture is gonna be blown up and put on my wall. Most granny’s have holy pictures- I’ll have a picture of my beautiful, fat, tattooed body, that will make visitors uncomfortable. I’m not sure which part of that idea makes me happiest.
5. My Pin Up Art Collection
There are few things in this life that make me happier than alternative pin up girls. So it seemed only fitting that my first pieces of art should be beautiful prints of tattooed ladies. They are beautiful pieces of beautiful women and they just make me happy to look at. It’s not much of an explanation but I’m not sure how else to explain it other than tattooed pin ups rock.
6. My Blog
Technically I lied when I said there were only five things. My most prized possession is this blog and all of my social media pages. These are the arenas into which I pour my creative energy. They provide a space for me to vent, to educate and to celebrate. For that I would like to thank each and every one of you for reading my ramblings. Otherwise I would just be a purple haired girl typing long messages to herself. On that note if you have any topics you would like me to discuss, pretty please do not hesitate to contact me.
Love you all
